What we carry

We aren't just a seed store. Yes, we do carry garden, prairie, and bird seed, but we have a lot more as well! Our product offerings fall under several categories. Most items are either local, regional, hand-crafted, or nature-based. Or several of the above! We want to support makers of quality products. We also love nature and want to support the plants, pollinators, and birds that play a key role in our ecosystems.

100% linen tea towels and bedding

Linens

We source our 100% linen directly from Lithuania and Ukraine. Eastern Europe has a strong agricultural heritage of growing flax. Accompanying the interest in sustainable farming, an industry has grown around ethical production of high quality linens, in this region with a long history of textile production.

We carry 100% linen wash cloths, bath towels, tea towels, cloth napkins, pillow cases, queen bedding sets, and socks.

Garden Seed

We carry heirloom vegetable seed packets from Seed Savers Exchange, near Decorah, Iowa. These varieties have unique colors, flavors, and histories. Stop in to browse our wide selection of heritage vegetable seed!

Prairie Seed

We also carry prairie seed from Shooting Star Native Seeds in Spring Grove, Minnesota. We offer two mixes; one Prairie Pollinator Mix (for typical prairie settings) and also a Wet-Sedge Meadow Mix (for more moist conditions). Both contain a large selection of native seeds from (and for) our region. Each packet plants roughly 1,000 square feet. Consider eliminating a bit of lawn and creating a welcoming space for native pollinators!

Beeswax Candles

We also carry beeswax candles. A completely natural product, we love beeswax candles for their subtle scent of honey and long burn time!

Bird Seed

We carry a large selection of bird seed for your feathered friends. We offer (2) mixes in 20 lb bags, (2) mixes in 40 lb bags, (1) variety in 50 lb bags, and (11) varieties in bulk (able to be purchased by the lb in any quantity). Varieties include: safflower, black oil sunflower, cracked corn, woodpecker mix, millet, peanut pieces, wild bird mix, premium wild bird mix, fruit & nut, thistle seed, and finch mix. Get your birdseed locally; our prices are very competitive!

Bird Feeders & Bird Houses

We carry a large selection of bird feeders; including oriole feeders, hummingbird feeders, suet feeders, platform feeders, fly-thru feeders, hopper feeders, and also window-mounted feeders. Most are made in Wisconsin (we carry the eco-friendly 95% recycled plastic line from Bird's Choice). We also carry Green Meadow feeders (and houses), which are made by an Amish community in Indiana, and are also comprised of recycled plastic.

We also carry bluebird houses, wren houses, and bat houses.

Rocks - Fossils - Minerals

We are rock people :) Maybe you are too! We hand select a wide assortment of gemstones and fossils from around the world, while attending the Tucson Rock & Mineral Show. This is a place where vendors from all over the world converge for a month; showcasing the amazing rocks, minerals, and fossils that come from their corner of the world. We've got labradorite from Madagascar, malachite from the Democratic Republic of Congo, trilobite's from Morocco, fossil fish from Wyoming, pyrite suns from southern Illinois, fossil ferns from Pennsylvania, and MUCH more!

We also have a selection of locally collected fossils of the marine life that once called this region home 450 million years ago!

Karst Notebooks

Paper made of limestone! It’s silky smooth, waterproof, and more sustainable than making paper from tree pulp. We have karst stone paper in pocket notebook size (blank), as softcover journals (lined), and as hardcover journals (lined, dotted, or blank). These make great field notebooks!

Garden Tools

We carry two of Amy’s favorite garden tools: soil knives and hand-hoes. Soil knives are great; they are sturdy and sharp which make them great for planting or even digging dandelions! She will tell you that digging with a trowel is like digging with a spoon. A soil knife is much easier on the wrists! Hand-hoes are also a fantastic tool in the garden. They are sharp, durable, and are great for weeding in and around plants. Depending upon the angle at which you use them, they will slice right under the roots of small seedlings without disturbing soil structure or dig deeper to remove larger weeds. We carry hand-hoes in both a right-handed or left-handed version!

Willow Basketry

Friends of ours happen to be talented basket weavers (among their many skills). We carry a selection of their beautiful willow baskets. Not only did they weave these incredible functional baskets, but they spent years growing and tending several patches of willow for this very purpose. All parts of these baskets are the work of theirs hands; they grow, harvest, grade, soak, and weave with willow from their northeast Iowa home. Stop in to try one of their many styles of homegrown, hand-woven baskets!

Sorghum Brooms

We currently offer both whisk brooms and cob-web brooms. This a craft that Amy learned many years ago from Little John the Broom-maker :) Having been a vegetable farmer at that time, she also grew crops of ‘broom corn’, or sorghum that has been selected for its long tassels (often grown for its ornamental qualities), but in her case, she was growing it for making very locally sourced brooms. These are coarse brooms that are both functional and decorative.

Leather Work

Leather is an honest, natural material as well. We have a small selection of leather-work from the U.S. and abroad. We currently carry keychains, two styles of slim wallet, and some Celtic knot leather ornaments. Another friend of ours is a talented leather-worker and we hope to offer some of his incredible moccasins in the future!

T-Shirts

We are currently carrying a selection of cotton/polyester blend t-shirts in earthy, heathered tones. Some are Driftless t-shirts (denoting the counties OR rivershed within the Driftless Region of SE Minnesota, NE Iowa, SW Wisconsin, and NW Illinois). Others are the designs of independent artists; typically subtle and nature-themed.

Cards

We’ve brought in two lines of artist-made (blank) greeting cards. One is the work of a Maine artist who creates beautiful nature watercolors and the other the work of a Montana woodcut artist who creates botanic and nature scenes.

Blown Glass

We appreciate quality craftsmanship and natural materials. It was fitting to bring in beautiful blown glass orbs ahead of the holiday season. These make great ornaments but can also be hung in a window year-round. Their colors are gorgeous!

Felted Wool

Wool is another natural fiber that we appreciate. As much as we would love to carry wool sweaters, we’re not a clothing store. Instead, we've sourced felted merino wool coasters made by two different women-owned small businesses. What a great (and sustainable) way to protect your furniture while also adding a splash of color to your place-setting or evening of entertaining!

Forged Iron Work

We find that hand-forged iron makes for rustic, functional additions to the home. We carry iron work from several blacksmiths;including a number of different types of hooks for the home, as well as candle holders, and snowflake ornaments.

Extras

We also have vinyl stickers! They are of course nature-based illustrations, which include birds, butterflies, wildflowers, spring ephemerals, and more!
